A Public Lecture with the theme “Preparing Competent Biology Graduates to Face Professional Challenges” was organized by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Riau on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the FMIPA Auditorium. The event was attended by active biology students with the aim of providing real insights into opportunities, challenges, and self-development strategies for biology graduates in entering the professional world.
The lecture featured two inspiring speakers: Jiffi Rokaheski, S.Si. (Regional Sales Manager of PT. Andalan Chemist Indonesia as well as an entrepreneur) and Bayu Fernando, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Director of PT. Nando Sukses Mendunia, entrepreneurship practitioner lecturer, and founder of Rumah Jamur Nando).
In his presentation, Jiffi Rokaheski emphasized that the key to success lies in attitude, self-awareness, goal setting, and consistency. According to him, a positive mindset plays a greater role in determining one’s success than merely relying on knowledge or technical skills. By managing both strengths and weaknesses, students can become more effective and efficient in pursuing their career goals.
Meanwhile, Bayu Fernando provided broad insights into the diverse career paths available for biology graduates, whether in industry, education, or entrepreneurship. He also shared his practical experience of building a business from the ground up through Rumah Jamur Nando, while highlighting the importance of entrepreneurial thinking and innovation for the younger generation.
The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from their attentiveness during the presentations and their active participation in discussions and Q&A sessions. Students expressed that they gained new perspectives on how to better prepare themselves for the professional world, which is full of challenges.
Through this program, Biology students of FMIPA Universitas Riau not only gained academic insights but also valuable soft skills, motivation, and inspiration to further develop their competencies, enhance competitiveness, and prepare to become graduates who are not only academically excellent but also adaptive and innovative at the global level.
