Bio-Entrepreneurs Exhibition Day:
UNRI Biology Students Showcase Innovative Natural-Based Products
Pekanbaru, November 26, 2026 — The Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Riau, once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering a science-based entrepreneurial spirit through the "Bio-Entrepreneurs Exhibition Day," a student innovation exhibition as part of the Bioentrepreneurship course.
This activity was supervised by two lecturers, Dr. Yulminarti, M.Si., and Dr. Mayta Novaliza Isd, M.Si., who encouraged students to integrate their biological knowledge with creative and sustainable business opportunities. Through a series of learning processes, students were challenged to design, develop, and present innovative products based on natural resources.
At this year's exhibition, students successfully showcased a variety of superior products, ranging from themed souvenirs made from natural materials and healthy culinary products to eco-friendly skincare products utilizing local plant extracts. These works not only stood out for their creativity but also reflected the students' understanding of sustainability principles, economic value, and the potential for utilizing Indonesia's biodiversity.
"Through this activity, we hope students will see that biology is not only confined to the laboratory, but can also be the basis for developing value-added products for society," said Dr. Yulminarti, M.Si.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mayta Novaliza Isd, M.Si. added that this activity provides a space for self-actualization for students to hone their problem-solving, innovation, communication, and collaboration skills within the context of modern entrepreneurship.
Bio-Entrepreneurs Exhibition Day demonstrates that Biology students at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia, have great potential in presenting creative products based on research and natural resources, in line with the university's vision of developing adaptive, innovative, and competitive graduates.
