The Biology Master's Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Riau, held a Biology Master's Curriculum Workshop on November 10, 2025, themed "Review of the Biology Master's Curriculum, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Riau, Towards an Impactful Campus." The workshop was led by Mrs. Rodiyah Azrianingsih, Ph.D., and aimed to review the curriculum's alignment with national standards, workplace needs, and the ASIIN international accreditation system.
The discussion covered four main aspects: credit system equivalency, formulation of Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL), course structure, and matriculation and assessment mechanisms. Based on the discussion, the 54-credit study load was deemed to be in accordance with ASIIN standards. The CPL Master's in Biology focuses on mastering advanced knowledge, research skills, and student scientific independence.
Regarding the course content, it was agreed that there was a need to increase the number of elective courses and implement Project-Based Learning and Case-Based Learning approaches. Students are also required to prepare an annual progress report as part of the academic assessment process.
Input from BRIN, delivered by Dr. Istiana Prihatani, M.Si., confirmed that the designed curriculum aligns with national research priorities. BRIN also opens opportunities for research collaboration through various funding schemes, such as Degree by Research and Innovation Research for Advanced Indonesia (RIIM), and provides research facilities and cross-institutional academic collaboration.
Furthermore, alumni and students provided constructive input regarding improving collaboration between lecturers and practitioners, expanding course coverage, and adding and equalizing practicum activities each semester.
The activity concluded with the conclusion that the evaluation results and input from various parties will serve as the basis for refining the Master of Biology curriculum at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Riau, to make it more adaptive to developments in science and technology, relevant to the needs of the workforce, and internationally competitive in accordance with ASIIN standards.
